JCE Art

How to use JCE Art past papers

The Junior Certificate Examination (JCE) is taken at the end of junior secondary school in Botswana and marks the move into senior secondary school.

Past papers are one of the best ways to prepare, because they show the style of the questions, the topics that come up, and how to manage your time. Use them after you have revised a topic, not instead of revising it.

Look at how the questions are worded, how many marks each one carries, and which topics appear in more than one year.

At junior secondary level, many subjects are examined across the whole syllabus. Use past papers to find the topics you have not revised yet, then go back to your notes and textbook for those topics first.

Study tips

• Revise a topic first, then use a paper to test whether you can apply it.
• Work under timed conditions for at least some of your practice.
• Check the marks for each question to decide how much to write.
• Mark your work with a marking scheme or ask your teacher to check it.
• Keep a list of the questions you got wrong and return to them a few days later.

Common mistakes to avoid

• Reading an answer before trying the question yourself.
• Practising only the topics you already find easy.
• Not reading the instructions at the start of the paper.

This is general study guidance and not an official syllabus. Always check your current syllabus and exam requirements with your school or the examination board.
