JCE Moral Education

How to use JCE Moral Education past papers

The Junior Certificate Examination (JCE) is taken at the end of junior secondary school in Botswana and marks the move into senior secondary school.

Religious and Moral Education asks you to understand beliefs, values and ethical situations, and to explain your answers clearly. Past papers show the question styles and how much explanation is expected.

Look for questions on beliefs and practices, values and responsibilities, family and community, and everyday moral situations.

At junior secondary level, many subjects are examined across the whole syllabus. Use past papers to find the topics you have not revised yet, then go back to your notes and textbook for those topics first.

Study tips

• Learn the key terms and examples used in your class notes.
• Practise explaining a value or belief in your own words, then adding an example.
• For situation questions, state the issue, give your reasoning, and say what the result could be.
• Show respect for different views in your answers, even when you are asked for your own opinion.
• Check how many marks a question carries so you know how much to write.

Common mistakes to avoid

• Stating an opinion without any reasons.
• Answers that are too short for the marks available.
• Confusing terms from different beliefs or topics.

This is general study guidance and not an official syllabus. Always check your current syllabus and exam requirements with your school or the examination board.
