How to use JCE Commerce & Office Procedures past papers

The Junior Certificate Examination (JCE) is taken at the end of junior secondary school in Botswana and marks the move into senior secondary school.

Commerce tests your knowledge of business terms and how trade, banking, transport and communication work. Past papers show the vocabulary used in questions and how examiners expect definitions and examples to be written.

Look for questions on trade, banking and insurance, transport, communication, business documents, and short case studies.

At junior secondary level, many subjects are examined across the whole syllabus. Use past papers to find the topics you have not revised yet, then go back to your notes and textbook for those topics first.

Study tips

• Learn definitions word for word, then add a short real-life example for each.
• Practise business documents and calculations step by step.
• For case-study questions, use the details given in the text when you answer.
• Make summary tables to compare similar ideas, such as different types of business.
• Check how many marks a question carries and give at least that many points.

Common mistakes to avoid

• Mixing up similar business terms.
• Giving definitions without examples where examples are asked for.
• Ignoring the information given in the case study.
